When I was in high school I missed out on a lot of things like Nirvana, Metallica and Stephen King. I was part of that youth group movement that burned all secular books and cd’s because being a Christian was more about what you didn’t do than what you did do. (Side note – I wound up buying most of those things again because I’m a sucker for great music and well told stories).
I also swore off all rated R movies so I completely missed the start of Quentin Tarantino’s career. I eventually saw “Pulp Fiction” and liked it, but it was when I saw “Kill Bill Vol. 1&2” and eventually “Inglorious Basterds” that I became a huge fan.
Then came “Django Unchained”. Quite possibly one of my top 10 all-time favorite movies. It’s a story filled with biblical themes like freedom, redemption and a love that will risk everything for the object of that love.
I’d heard rumors about Tarantino’s 8th film called “the Hateful 8” but after a leaked script it had been left dead in the water. Tarantino didn’t want to do it. Eventually, he relented and began work on the film.
The trailer has since snuck out under my nose and I couldn’t be happier.
It appears to be a “Reservoir Dogs” meets “Django” and that’s just fine by me.
Check out the trailer and let me know what you think.
