Maybe my greatest privilege as a pastor is to baptize people.
Jesus was baptized.
Jesus told his followers to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
But I’ve noticed a national trend in fewer baptisms.
Maybe people are skeptical of the tub and the dunking.
Maybe they don’t feel like the moment is that big of a deal.
Maybe they don’t want to have people stare at them.
Maybe they’ve seen someone who was baptized and think “Well…that didn’t stick…”
This video is maybe the best explanation of why we get baptized still.
It isn’t to claim perfection.
It is a marker in our story that anchors us to the story of Jesus.
If you live in the Riverview area, I’d love for you to join us on Feb. 16th @ 11 for our baptism gathering.
And if you want to have that anchoring moment in your story, we’d love to baptize you that day.
Busyness at the church has kept me from blogging about big stories like the Super Bowl and the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, but it won’t keep me from sharing one of the most beautiful events that Jesus followers get to have.
Enjoy the video.
