This week, I saw a video that made me want to cry. No, that’s not strong enough. A video that made me want to rage punch a baby dolphin. What could possibly make a full grown man who vocationally works as a pastor assault this harmless sea mammal?
Thankfully, there’s a story that made me very proud to be a sports fan. Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriot TE was accused and arrested for murder this week. Obviously, that’s not the awesome part. It’s horrible. But unlike past arrest of rising superstar athletes, the New England Patriots are not sweeping this under the rug or trying to protect him. They’ve distanced themselves from Hernandez and are now offering a FREE trade in jersey day. Bring in your old Aaron Hernandez jersey and you can trade it for any jersey of comparable value.
In a statement released by the Patriots:
We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore. We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.
One story makes my soul cry. The other restores a little faith.
In case you forgot already which makes we soul weep for humanity here’s a hint: it’s Bieber who makes my soul cry.
