At World’s End

We people love stuff about the end of the world. Even in the last 20 years we’ve seen everything from the Michael Bay subtle-as-a-jackhammer film Armageddon to the surprisingly good and charming 2012 movie Seeking a Friend for the End of the World staring Steve Carell and Kiera Knightly all the bases get covered when it comes to this genre.

That even includes us Christians, who for some reason, at times become overly obsessed with trying to figure out what exactly the Scriptures say about the end. Out of this came the Left Behind series where every character became a Christian and indistinguishable from each other. Poor character writing aside, the books made a killing and out of that came the inevitable Kirk Cameron vehicle Left Behind movies. Now, the movies are being rebooted because we can’t get enough of that end times stuff. I’ve been covering that reboot here and here.

But until now, the end hasn’t received the treatment it deserves. Enter the trio of Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The team behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are looking to do for this genre what they did for zombies. Martin Freeman (who was in Hot Fuzz and more recently this little film called The Hobbit) is also a part of the crew. This film marks the end of a great trilogy. I can’t wait to see the full thing and how they’re going to make the eventually death of everyone…hilarious. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for an end times cameo by either Cameron or Cage.
