It’s happening far too often now. Aurora, CO and the Batman movie shooting. The tragedy at Sandy Hook. Attacks on college campuses are becoming almost regular.
Every day as I drive to and from the church, I drive past Davidson Middle School in Southgate where an eighth grade boy took his own life in a school bathroom.
Today, at the running of the Boston Marathon, several explosions went off about an hour after the first runners crossed the finish line. So far it has been reported that at least 2 have died and several others were wounded and have even lost limbs. The Boston Police Department has reported that there were several devices along the race route discovered that did not go off.
I don’t think anyone would argue that the world is broken. This kind of senseless violence is a sign that there is something radically wrong with things as they are. It reminds me of the what was written in Genesis 6.5 ” The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” It’s getting that way again it seems.
On a day like this, I’m reminded of just how broken things are, how much the world is groaning for something to set things back to the way they are supposed to be. Throughout the Scriptures, God spoke of restoring all things to Himself. Today, I wait a little less patiently for that restoration.
Please, Father, we can’t make sense of any of this. We trust in You but we can’t take much more of these types of things.
